Hide's 100-word story for June 1, 2025

Hide wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on June 1, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

It’s a magic coloring book, the old man said. Whatever, I thought. Two dollars and some crayons, and Sarah would call me uncle of the year. Then we started coloring. “I’m gonna make it pretty, Uncle Josh!” Cute kiddo. Probably autistic or something, but who isn’t these days? “Josh, can you come outside real quick?” I hear my sister calling me from the stairs. “Do you see that too?” The apartment was… pretty. I see Sarah waving from the window. “I’m gonna draw us all outside, Uncle Josh!” Suddenly my back explodes in pain. “I gave you wings!” Oh fuck.
