As I laid down defeated in the water that surrounded me, I reflected back on the decisions that led me here. Perhaps my ex-wife had been right all those years. Perhaps I truly had let my hubris best me, and fill me with unfounded optimism. The reality of my fallibility flooded around me, stinging my nostrils, filling my lungs, and engulfing the tears that poured from my eyes. As the torrent of water that would form my inevitable grave rose I could only think a singular regret: "I really should have paid a plumber instead of fixing the toilet myself..."
