joeislove's 100-word story for June 8, 2025

joeislove wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on June 8, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

Rust and rot creep through the land, the effects of the great spell of unmaking rippling and pulsing in its thousand-year course. Those who struggled against the ebb and flow of entropy in the beginning were eventually worn down as they found that nothing they made would stay made. A time for all makers to despair. And yet, we continued. We continued to teach our ways to the young ones who would listen, the ones who wanted to learn. We tell each other that it will not be like this forever, but the spell even tries to unmake our hope.
