joeislove's 100-word story for June 9, 2025
joeislove wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on June 9, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.
When I used to drink, I would often black out and wake up in strange places. I would just get sleepy and find someplace cozy to go to sleep, wherever I was. More than once I woke up underneath a car. Obviously "cozy" meant something a bit different to my drunken brain and my sober brain. But the day I woke up in a pile of hay and wrapped in a saddle blanket in that old barn was different. I remember how warm I felt, snuggled deep into the hay. But the horse who lived there wouldn't let me sleep.
