magisternihil's 100-word story for June 10, 2025

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on June 10, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

We were wholly unprepared when the ice came. One day it was "Boy, it sure is chilly today!" and "A sweater? It's July!" and the next day everything was frozen. Then people started freezing, mid-sentence in some cases. One unfortunate soul was halfway down a bungee jump. I don't even want to describe what happened when the cord pulled taut. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason, until someone pointed out the blue-eyed people were unaffected. Then the frost giants rose from the earth. Needless to say they found their descendants a disappointment and called off the invasion.
