Eight birds up in an old dead tree, Sitting in the hot sun looking at me. Wondering if I'm gonna get up again. Watching til they see me draw my last breath in. Eight birds up in an old dead tree, And I want to yell, "Shoo now, can't you see? I may look busted and I may look broke, And I know y'all want to give my eyes a poke, And dig in my skull and pick out my brain. But I'm just thirsty. And I smell rain." So fly off you birds. Get off that old dead tree.
