Jackal's 100-word story for June 19, 2025

Jackal wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on June 19, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

It was the fall of 1983 when Johnny went missing. The whole town went looking, but there wasn't even a trace of him left behind. The police couldn't find a single clue. Mama and Daddy weren't the same after that. I wasn't able to leave the house without them. I couldn't have friends over. The worst part was them taking me out of school. About a year after he disappeared, we decided to have a memorial. We have this huge tree outside that Johnny loved to climb. Johnny might have been the one missing, but we were just as lost.
