We just drifted apart. Year after year, it felt like less of a match, me and the city life. In the early days, the lure of the crowds was enough to make my blood burn with youthful lust. But now, I'd just rather be alone most of the time. Far from the madding crowd. Just the buzzing in my own brain, with nothing to interfere. Soon enough I'll settle down again. Maybe I'll build a little shack, some semi-permanent place in this ephemeral world. Eventually, I may become one of those hillbilly horror stories. The bearded stranger. The cautionary tale.
