We set out for Colorado in a busted car, boom-boxing Bon Jovi for a camping weekend. The sun grilled us dry like squids while we assembled a camp. Last time I needed this skill was at summer camp, many moons ago, to impress Ashley’s momma. We haven’t gone camping since she left, but if I’m gonna build a shelter in the wild for any girl at all, it’s gonna be my Ashley. We sat by the camp, sipping ice-cold, homemade orange juice and telling each other secrets. Mine was I had never experienced such a beautiful sunset like this one.
