After leaving class, Laura has never felt more free. She skips to the bus stop, and then the rest of the way home. Her fiancé is playing the Xbox and does not look up. “Hey hun, what’s for dinner?” “A big ol’ helping of ‘the engagement is off and I’m leaving you’!,” she said, chipperly, before sauntering to the bedroom. She didn’t wait to see what Cliff would say, because she didn’t really care. Laura packed her watercolors and her winter coat and turned to us, giving us a winning smile and the okay signal. She walked out the door.
