Brother Archibald could spin a tale so enthralling the hours would pass by unseen until the rumbling in our bellies reminded us that we must eat. Sister Agatha’s skill with the bow meant we were never in want for meat. The village used to sing as she walked through the brush with dinner on her shoulders. Brother Tomothy’s garden spewed bounty onto our table as though the supply was never-ending. But the sickness took Sister Roisin first, and she was the only one of us who knew the way of healing. And now the trees reclaim the land without us.
