joeislove's 100-word story for June 26, 2025

joeislove wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on June 26, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

"Been there," I thought, looking at the stuffed rabbit. He had clearly seen better days, was no longer well-liked (or loved at all), and had obviously passed out under the tree in my front yard after a pretty rough night. I squatted down next to him, offered a cigarette which he did not accept, and lit my own. I put on my and most-practiced philosophical moue, gazed into the middle distance, and mused aloud, "Life is like the Modori river. You wander, lose your way, and come back. Don't underestimate life." The rabbit did not answer, which was a relief.
