The rocks tear at my palms my legs scream from the effort why did I even start this ascent? what did I hope to accomplish higher than I am? is elevation really all that necessary to have thoughts worthy of the effort? but then the view oh, the view as the fog dissipates in the face of the sun and the lake below comes into view how small like a puddle hardly big enough to wet my socks they say people aren't afraid of heights but of the impulse they feel to jump but I never want to leave here
