joeislove's 100-word story for April 24, 2025

The mice that live in the old piano in the parlor have been teaching themselves to play. Every night, as I lie awake, waiting for sleep to come and take me, I hear them: the plunking of keys as they venture out, the tinkle of ivory and ebony as they run and hop up and down the keyboard. Learning to work together, experimenting with their runs and scales as they go. I know I should call an exterminator. Or get a cat. But they're actually starting to get pretty good at it. I just wish they'd lay off the Rachmaninoff.
