I stared out the window, the arid heat making it hard to draw breath. We were holding it anyways, waiting for the alarm to sound. As soon as the clanging bells started, Twig and I leapt out, dashing along the hot terra cotta tiles. The bottoms of my bare feet screamed in protest, but the adrenaline blocked out most of the pain. As we jumped rooftop to rooftop, people started pointing and shouting. We saw guards running up stairs, and I readied my dagger. We were going to rescue the princess, if it was the last thing we ever did.
