And just like that, the world went aquamarine on me. I felt like a patch of pond scum, occasionally rippling as the monster hidden below passed too close to the surface. The world seemed out of focus, far away, as if I was drifting away from reality. The monster waits. It's ready to wait forever, ready to spring the trap. A patient knot of terror and loathing buried in the squishy mud of the shallows. I knew its power; it hadn't surfaced in ages, but I never stopped being afraid of it. I long for the touch of the sun.
