Words pour from their mouths in an unbroken torrent that surprisingly defies the need for breath. He listens, the interjections his mind conjures racing forward then fleeing before he can discover a pause to release them into. What would happen if he stepped back, retreating down the street until they faded from view? Would they follow or even notice? What if he released the scream that always builds inside of him, just opened his mouth, looked at the sky, and freed it from its chains? Would they even hear it? Seizing a moment, he makes a joke. It goes unheard.
