Jackal's 100-word story for July 22, 2025

Jackal wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on July 22, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

The year is 8088. The population has grown at such an alarming rate that the government has had to step in to help offset the increased homeless population. They built these pods. Each pod is 6’x6’x6’, and has a small heating and cooling unit. Each group of pods, called colonies, would have shared toilets and showers. Then each building that consists of 4 colonies has a shared kitchen. The issue arises with families. The pods aren’t large enough to fit a family so children are separated from their parents pretty early. Other than that I guess they solved the problem??
