Jackal's 100-word story for August 2, 2025

Jackal wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on August 2, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

It was shortly past 9 o’clock when the van pulled up. I was told by the cops to stay back and let in the cleaners. As I walked back down the long hallway filed with family photos, I couldn’t help but wonder how all this came to pass. It was quite obvious what needed cleaning once you entered the room. I watched as they started scraping his brains from the walls and collecting his teeth in a neat pile on the table with his other belongings. Crazy how a persons entire existence can be collected into such few garbage bags.
