Hide's 100-word story for August 3, 2025

Hide wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on August 3, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

Everything went to shit in Portland when the gentrifiers found out about hobo culture. They took the code and ran with it. Forget shoes tied on the phone lines, they were tying up their bikes that previously had baskets filled with Trader Joe’s groceries. Said it meant that “this spot has really good birria.” There was a big of panhandling, but mostly handing out zines, especially about antimaterialism. The final straw, though, was when a popular tumblr blog started posting reviews of homeless shelters. Thus, the Great War of the Hipsters vs. Hobos. Want to read my zine about it?
