Hide's 100-word story for August 5, 2025

Hide wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on August 5, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

The clothespins hung empty since the demons came to town. The first assumption was that demons never changed their clothes, so therefore didn’t need to wash them. The second guess, when that proved to be offensive towards the demons, was that the clothespins were made of driftwood and therefore had salt in them. This was far fetched and whoever suggested it at the town hall meeting was booed and told to sit down. It turns out that demons just really hate menial tasks and brought their own washing machines and dishwashers. A few of the zealous ones even had roombas.
