She hurried to the top of the staircase, desperate to meet him there. But as she reached the top, he had disappeared into the fog that cloaked the towering buildings. The only light came from a stoplight, its red glow intensifying the sadness within her. Would she ever see him again? Had he even been there at all? Why was she chasing after a stranger, hoping to find her missing father—a faceless name she’d learned about at sixteen? All her searching had led her to one conclusion: he was gone. She had to let go. Smiling she walked away.
