magisternihil's 100-word story for May 1, 2025

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on May 1, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

Aunt Joan was the record keeper, the historian for the family. At every birth, she was there, writing down the exacts time and date, the name given, the weight and length. She wrote it all down in the family book. At every death, she was there as well. The listened closely for the last words, recording them in her slanted scrawl. She marked when they left this mortal plane the moment it happened. I have the book now, as she lay dying, and I have her last words: "You look creepy as hell sitting here waiting for me to die."
