“Hey buddy, why the long face?” His barking laughter echoed across the park, reflecting off buildings. I could tell how proud he was of that one. For the next hour, he would crack himself up remembering it. Subdued snorting giggles just bursting out of him every few minutes. I laughed too, but more the kind of rueful chuckle that comes out when you know that you’ve just witnessed a tale that will be repeated at dinners with friends at least three dozen times, and maybe for the rest of your life together. I love him, but he is an idiot.
