joeislove's 100-word story for August 20, 2025

joeislove wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on August 20, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

It feels good to be here again, looking at this place that holds so many memories. Knowing that they are only memories, and that the pain of those days is behind us now. We made it out of that hell. Only these ruined walls remain, standing as a somber memorial to those who did not survive those days. I can feel Oxsana’s gaze piercing through me, searching for a clue to what I am feeling. But even I do not really know what this feeling is. All I know is that I am here. Alive. And that is good enough.
