“You never know where the portals are going to open, or how long they’ll last, or even what’s on the other side,” said Hugh. “But I have a talent for feeling them out.” The other man looked at him with poorly disguised skepticism. “So, what, it will just pop up and poof, there’s my path out of here?” “Precisely,” said Hugh. He pointed forward as the sparks began to swirl. The man’s eyes grew wide as the portal appeared. He stepped forward and looked through. “Everything there is made of cheese.” Hugh shrugged. “Sounds like a better life to me.”
