magisternihil's 100-word story for August 23, 2025

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on August 23, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

Diane remembers her Aunt Cora years ago saying how she wished she could stop time as they watched the children play. What a foolish thing to say! Diane wonders if this is Cora’s doing. Diane takes her tea and walks out to sit on the front porch. She can’t get the water to boil now, but it helps to go through the motions. If only she could work out how to start time back. She looks out at Barry doing his trick for Geoff, now trapped in amber for the foreseeable…future?…and sighs. At least he’s wearing his helmet.
