Wilbur led a simple life. Nothing too showy, never raised a fuss. When he made the jackelope statue it wasn’t to get attention, but because he wanted to. But then Tom Kanin noticed it in Wilbur’s back yard, knocked on the door, and from that point on the statue became the star of the town parade. For fifty-three years, Wilbur got to tow the statue downtown and bring up the rear of the parade, waving at the children as they cheered. Now this year they’re “going in a different direction.” Wilbur doesn’t mind. He never wanted to raise a fuss.
