magisternihil's 100-word story for August 29, 2025

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on August 29, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

No human should feel like this. It’s been two days since she ran out of meds, and Lila is all but useless to the world. “Don’t you think that means you were dependent on them?” Gerald asked her. Stupid, know-it-all Gerald. She can feel the emptiness in her body, can feel the lack of benefit. And then, of course, there was the noise, now back in full force, relentless, cacophonous: discordant bits of songs, recalcitrant thoughts stumbling over one another for attention, lists and to-dos gone have-not-dones. In two weeks she can get her medicine again. An eternity of noise.
