magisternihil's 100-word story for August 31, 2025

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on August 31, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

“Give yourself a hand!” The leadership conference had been a joke, full of one-liners and cookie cutter nonsense. They gave us all the little plastic hands, told us all to applaud ourselves daily. You can’t clap with one hand, for crying out loud! On top of that, they missed the obvious “help yourself” connotations of the phrase, just kept going on about being your own best cheerleader. As if everything is accomplished without anyone else being involved. That’s all I can think about when I see the formed piece of plastic making a mockery of support. Wish I had two.
