joeislove's 100-word story for September 1, 2025

joeislove wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on September 1, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

They said it couldn’t be done. They said a man couldn’t skydive from one hundred thousand feet up, from the very border of space. And especially not if he was wearing a dapper suit and smart leather shoes. And even more especially without the benefit of a parachute. I said a parachute would ruin the collar gap. They said it would kill you, that even if you survived the extreme cold and hypoxia at extreme altitude, that the fall would decimate you. That it would probably bury you up to your waist. So anyway. They were right, as it happens.
