As the fog slowly unrolled across the water, the revealed scenery seemed nearly mystical. Jurgen’s children finally caught a whiff of the magic that kept him pining for the canal boat as he ticked away mindless hours at his desk. The smell of smoked fish and toasted bread filled the little kitchen, growling tummies and watering mouths. Woven through these smells, strong coffee and a nameless aquatic funk vied for jurgen’s attention, enticing him to take a cup and sit on the roof; to revel in the reluctant departure of dawn, as it grudgingly yields to the breaking of day.
