"So what do you do out here all day?" The white-bearded keeper waved at the pile of books dominating the table by the wall. At least three were bookmarked with bits of flotsam. What I would later learn was a seal's pelvis held an encyclopedia volume open to the entry on the first World War. The sound of crashing waves grew louder for a moment. It might have been the blood rushing in my ears. "Gotta change the lightbulb sometimes, I guess?" The old man grunted, "Put in LED last year." This would be the longest summer of my life.
