She poured the dark liquid into the cups, their pristine landscapes broken by the river of brown, not a drop hitting the table. She smiled. “When I was a girl, my grandmother taught me to pour. The first time I tried I got more on the table than in the cups. As the years have gone by, I have gotten less sloppy.” Her granddaughter looked up from her phone. “Uh-huh.” “Now you try,” said her grandmother.. With a sigh the girl set down her phone and poured, but got coffee everywhere. Her grandmother smiled and nodded, not seeing the difference.
