joeislove's 100-word story for September 4, 2025

When I worked the batting cages that summer, I developed an eye for baseball wear patterns. You can only hit them so many times before they have to be thrown out. A couple of the guys who came in could literally knock the stitching loose. I'm sure you can imagine the type: peaked in high school, always wears a ball cap to hide the pattern baldness, practically oozing cheap cologne. They come in to take out their suburban frustrations by knocking the shit out of a basket of baseballs. Healthier than how some others face their lives of quiet desperation.
