magisternihil's 100-word story for September 6, 2025

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on September 6, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

Roger was always afraid of witches, so when he saw a crooked window on a house and asked why it was like that, the answer made him more than happy. “It’s a witch window,” said his uncle Coy. “They can’t fly in your house with it crooked like that.” Years later, when it came time to build his own house, he made all of the windows slant, because who’s to say which window the witch will try. Tabitha, his wife, fully supported the enterprise. “After all,” she said as she stirred her secret cauldron in the basement. “Who needs competition?”
