magisternihil's 100-word story for September 17, 2025

Some criminals are sly, using clever wiles to evade the police around every corner. Some were stupid, clumsily bragging about exploits until the wrong person heard them and turned them in. And some, like Caleb Kidd, were bold. He not only stole cars and stripped them in his private shop behind his house, he also hung the license plates like trophies on the swing-up garage door. The thing was, nobody paid attention. Things like this were common, collectors showing off their finds. No one gave it a second thought. Most of his neighbors were just glad it wasn’t garden gnomes.
