joeislove's 100-word story for September 21, 2025

joeislove wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on September 21, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

Fingers outstretched, plaster hands claw at the wire mesh, frozen mid-gesture against the crumbling brick. I stand before them, heart pounding, the deadline looming like an executioner's shadow. This project was supposed to be finished yesterday, yet here I am, frantically scribbling notes, snapping photos, praying inspiration will strike. The hands feel alive, accusing, demanding...proof of my failure to finish it. I imagine them reaching, grasping, dragging me closer, whispering: hurry. My pen scratches faster, words spilling before thought can catch them. Time is gone, but the story breathes. Finished or not, I must submit Even if it's bad..
