“This place is paradise!” “I wish this wasn’t a vacation and we lived here!” “Imagine waking up to this view every day!” I hear it all the time, words blissfully exhaled by wandering tourists, their gazes locked on everything they see, their rapturous exclamations filled with praise and wonder as they look at me, just some guy, and try and work out how I came to be so lucky when their lives are so miserable. I didn’t accomplish some great feat or perform some heroic deed to earn this reward. I’ve just always been here. And I always will be.
