Doug let out a long sigh, feeling anxiety slipping away. Jill was right, a week at the lake was just what he needed. He draped his hand out of the boat, felt it break the surface, and it was so quiet he could hear the water droplets from his fingertips hitting the surface, sending ripples of calm across the lake. Down below, the alligator felt the pull, heard the tinkle of dinner calling to him. He saw the meat dangling enticingly, tapping out the dinner chimes with stolen water. It looked to be a big one, too. Life was good!
