"Do you recognize me now?" the girl asked worriedly. Shaking his elderly head, her grandfather said, "No...I don't...why would I?" She turned around and smiled sadly at him sitting in the wheelchair. With his vacant eyes over a confused sweet smile. Dementia had taken his mind over; he didn't know anyone anymore. She'd hoped the little game they used to play would spark some kind of memory even if he'd just remembered her as a child. It was such a hard year already. Her grandmother died just before he went downhill. It was probably for the best, honestly.
