JKWriter's 100-word story for October 31, 2025

JKWriter wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on October 31, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

I always did have the best summers at Gramma and Poppa's...those two weeks every summer felt like two months of fun. I spent every day running through the hay then wading in the creek catching crawdads. Poppa always gave me a nickel for every crawdad I brought home and Gramma always put them in a stew. It was simple fare...poor people's food, but it was tasty. I remember it well. Standing outside their house before the wrecking crew came was painful. Even though it hadn't technically been theirs for four decades, it would always be theirs to me.
