JKWriter's 100-word story for November 5, 2025

JKWriter wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on November 5, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

"Walter, how many times have I told you...stay in your habitat, kid," the old man told his little penguin pal. The little bird waddled behind the old gent as he led him back to the safety of the penguin pen. It had seen better days, but with budget cuts and a skeleton crew...basic maintenance was all the zoo could afford. As it was, their animal population had either been sold off to cover expenses or had passed away from old age. There hasn't been any new creatures coming in for ages now. It was probably for the best.
